University of Illinois joins 5 technology industry leaders, incl. Microsoft and Google, in new Speech Accessibility Project

Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple and Meta, pledge to expand speech recognition capabilities for people with disabilities.

URBANA, ILLINOIS – The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has announced the Speech Accessibility Project, a new research initiative to make voice recognition technology more useful for people with a variety of speech patterns and disabilities. The project is launching with cross-industry support from Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft, as well as nonprofits whose communities will benefit from this accessibility initiative, to make speech recognition more inclusive of diverse speech patterns.
